These handsome boys have decided to make their stay with us permanent and will be staying with us at the sanctuary. They just love it out there so much and are not tame - they tried out foster homes and were too aggressive with everyone other than the one person they bonded with at our sanctuary, they will have a wonderful time living safely with us. Well cared for with lot's of love (and treats and a never ending supply of delicious food of course!).
Little Blue came to us from Strathmore. He was a feral outside cat who had a wonderful woman caring for him and several other kitties. Little Blue is very timid and he will only allow one volunteer to interact with him. He is very bonded to Jasper, they came from the same colony and are always found laying together and going to enjoy the outside run side by side.
AKA "Gargoyle" This boy is special needs because he has a disfigured eye membrane which fused to his eye from an untreated herpes infection prior to coming into our care. He requires daily eye drops but has good vision and functionality out of the eye itself so we are happy to keep him at the sanctuary where he can enjoy his life getting to play with the other cats and go safely outside into our secure cat run!
"Little Black Cat" or affectionately known as Little Guy - came to us in the fall of 2008 as a feral kitten. He still remains somewhat shy so he has made his home a permanent one at the sanctuary. He is doing great and is happier than ever.
Dellilah is a very chubby, soft and gentle little girl who purrs as soon as you pet her. She has come a long way from when we rescued her as a feral kitten. She has always been very quiet and sweet. She has a little spot of black on the tip of her nose. Delilah has tried a new home but is far too shy and timid, at this time she is a permanent resident at the sanctuary. Who knows, maybe down the road we can find her a trusting and understanding owner, but for now she is safe and happy with her feline friends.
Helmut is a cute little guy with neat markings. He was caught as a wild older kitten with his siblings and his mom from inside a shed. Helmut is still nervous around new people and will run from you when you approach him. He's one of those cats that will need alot of one on one in order to prepare him for adoption. We do see the potential in him to make a great housepet but because of his shy stature and of course a very quiet and safe home it is difficult to adopt him out. For now he is happy with his feline pals and our volunteers will continue to work with him and gain his trust, hopefully one day he'll come out of his shell and be ready for a new home.
Scoops came to us as an 8 week old wild kitten. She was with several siblings and we worked very hard with her to help tame her. Her siblings all became very tame and have since been adopted, Scoops unfortunately never fully came around and has remained quite timid dispite much effort. She is very good with her foster mom but is shy with new people. We would like Scoops to be adopted into a quiet home, without children or dogs. We just know she would love to have a safe, indoor home to live the rest of her days in. She loves other cats so ideally she should be adopted into a home with one or more cats already.
Wild Wanda was from a feral colony in Strathmore. Our intention was to spay and release her as she had a shelter and had food and was being cared for by someone outside. Once at the vet, they discovered she had been shot in the side with a pellet gun which had then formed a very bad abscess in her side. She had surgery to remove the damaged tissue and needed to be on antibiotics for 2 weeks. At that point, we couldn't let her go. She stayed in a cage for 2 weeks because that was the only way we knew she would eat the pills, hidden in her food. And we could make sure she was eating well and using the litter. That was in late 2005. She is now living full time at the sanctuary and has a favorite volunteer who has almost totally tamed the Wild Wilma. She loves to be held by only the one volunteer, scratched and snuggled and when the tinned foodcomes out, she is waiting patiently on her perch. Wilma does not trust anyone but her main caregiver that has been with her since we got her. So we feel it is not appropriate to adopt her out as she is comfortable and very bonded with the other cats and volunteer at the sanctuary. Wilma has a forever home with us and gets 24/7 access to a fully enclosed outdoor cat run with lot's of places to go and things to do. Life is not dull for this sweet girl at all.
We thought he was a female until surgery day, and he is now used to the name Dolly! Great with other cats, very very shy. Dolly is a semi-feral cat. He is just wild enough that he will not let you pet him but he has some comfort in people when it comes to being fed and looked after. Dolly is probably going to be with us forever although we will continue our best to tame and work with him and try to get him more comfortable with humans. If someone has experience working with wild cats and would like to give Dolly a second chance please contact us and maybe we can work together to help him progress a little faster. For now, he is living at the sanctuary with a wonderful group of cats, he is happy and very social with his feline friends.
Francis is a semi-feral cat, she has not had much human contact for most of her life, including her adult life. She is very very shy and avoids being touched if at all possible. Our volunteers are working with her, but she is probably going to be best suited to remain a sanctuary cat unless we can find a home that is fully prepared and understanding that this cat will "probably" never be much of a lap cat or seek human affection. Of course there's exceptions to every rule, but it will take alot of time, love and patience with a semi-feral cat - possibly even years before they will fully trust you. She would do best adopted into a quiet home without children or dogs but for now is living happily at our sanctuary.
Felicity is a gentle at who is very shy. She is also very sweet but is always nervous around new people or loud noises. We would like to find Felicity a quiet home that will give her the time and space(possibly months) she needs to gain confidence and become the adoring cat we know she can be. We would prefer she go to a home without young children due to her nervousness. Felicity would do well adopted as a companion for another cat but for now is living happily at the sanctuary.
Loves other dogs cats. Buffy was a very wild cat which was trapped whenshe was pregnant, she gave birth prematurely to 7 kittens due to the stress of being confined indoors, 5 of these kittens did not make it as Buffy had no idea what was going on and these kittens were far too weak to survive. Her 2 remaining kittens were found and hand-raised with a lot of TLC and have since been adopted into loving homes. Buffy is a beautiful, gentle and sweet young cat who is very trusting of her caregiver and extremely affectionate. She is still a tad weary of strangers but is getting better every day. Buffy needs a kind and patient owner who is willing to give time and lot's of love to earn Buffy's trust...once given, Buffy will be the best pet ever. Buffy does great with other cats and seems to really enjoy big hyper dogs too (as long as they are nice to her).
What a sweetie, very gentle, clean & loving. He jumps up on my bench lays down, rolls over and wants his tummy brushed. Big Boy is amazing with other cats, he has made friends with all of our resident cats.
Good with other cats Nick had been fending for himself for at least a year in a residential area of Strathmore. He had been seen off and on by many people but wouldn't allow anyone to come close to him. The winter of 2005 he overcame his shyness in hopes to land himself a nice warm home. For several weeks he had attempted to enter a home every time the door opened. Once this happened we finally got him! Nick was a challenge at first due to his tough nature he had no reason to trust us because people had chased him away for so long. Nick has been with us since Christmas '05 and has proven that he did indeed come from a home at some point...he has really shown us his true self! He will let us pick him up and play with him, he loves his toys and does great with the other cats now.
Our cats love to sleep on Kuranda cat beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another cat to sleep in comfort, please donate a Kuranda cat bed.
