Carlos Update

Carlos

UPDATE , November 20, 2009:  Carlos is ready for adoption!  He is 100% recovered and doing so well!!  He and his buddy Stan the Man are looking for a new home together.

UPDATE, October 24, 2009: Thank you to everyone who offered help for Carlos!!  He is doing fantastic and getting stronger every day, he is definately going to make a full recovery and we are all so grateful to everyone who reached out to offer assistance in paying for his surgery.  We will post some new pictures of Carlos soon so everyone can see how happy and healthy he now is!

Story from Oct. 8 - Carlos was adopted from our organization almost a year ago.  He just came back into our care this week after being surrendered to the humane society instead of the people bringing him back to our sanctuary, thankfully - we got him back.  He is now battling to recover from a serious injury he aquired before he was even surrendered.  We believe he was attacked over a week to even 2 weeks ago by a dog or some other larger animal.  You couldn't tell he was injured just by looking at him as he has very thick fur - but he was in pain and we quickly discovered his injuries.  Carlos had 3 severe bite wounds externally along with internal injuries that had caused him to herniate through his abdominal wall.  He underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair the damages but he now battles infection, recovery, as well as possible organ damage.  He seems bright, very loving and affectionate and most definately has the will to survive - we are all hoping for the best. Our vet and their staff are doing an amazing job caring for him, but his bill will be substantial after everything is done.  Like many others - we are struggling at times to cover our expenses.  This picture is of Carlos today - October 8, 2009 - One day post surgery - He's shaved from his chest to his hind end and under his belly he has 2 huge incisions with another incision on his side, that is how many it took to repair the hernia and damage he was suffering from.  He now has several weeks of recovery ahead of him and many stays and visits back to the vet.  The prognosis is so-so at this point as he has to fight off the severe infections (with the help of antibiotics of course).  We will update with his progress often. Thank you for taking the time to read about Carlos. If you would like more information on how you can help us save Carlos and make a donation towards his recovery and care, please email us or call right away.  Thank you.

Update October 12, 2009 - Carlos is doing very well, he is eating on his own now and recovering quietly at the sanctuary.  If he continues to do as well as he has been, he won't have to go back to the vet until his stitches need to be removed.  Thank you to everyone who offered support and well wishes to Carlos.  We wouldn't have been able to do it without you.
