About Us

We are a rescue group for abandoned and stray cats run by volunteers in Strathmore and surrounding areas.  We do not have a facility that is open to the public. We do have cats on display that are available for adoption at the Petsmart store in Calgary on Sunridge Way.  If there is a cat or kitten that is not on display at Petsmart that you would be interested in adopting please send us a completed questionnaire, once approved we can then arrange for you to meet the cat by appointment at one of our foster homes.  If you have further questions please contact us.

Our Mission Statement

Happy Cat Sanctuary has been formed to address the issue of stray, abandoned, and feral cats & kittens living within Strathmore, Alberta and its surrounding communities. Our primary goals are a follows:

  • To rescue stray and abandoned cats and kittens - we have received cats found by caring citizens, rescued some that have wandered onto farms, trapped strays living under abandoned houses and businesses.
  • Provide them with necessary veterinary care such as spay/neuter, identification (tattoos, ear tipping), vaccinations etc.
  • Rehabilitate these cats and kittens in order to prepare them to be adopted into loving homes; giving these souls a second chance.
  • Trap, neuter/spay, release back on the street Feral (wild) cats and provide long term care and feeding.

We feel very strongly that education is the key to success within our organization. Using ads in our local newspaper, posters, flyers, making presentations within local schools, 4H clubs, etc. We will educate the importance of spaying & neutering, identification (tattoo, ear tip), per care and the benefits of a well maintained feral cat colony.

The greatest benefit to the public is they have a place to call for help when they have a stray cat annoying them with spraying, howling, reproducing, ripping up garbage. For a lot of people they just love the cats and hate to see them without a warm place to sleep and enough food to eat - this breaks their hearts - and we are one cat at a time, stopping this.
